Jewelry Hospital was conceived while I was working for a retail jeweler way back in the 80’s.
One day, while I was working at my Jewelers bench, I heard a customer yell out….Is there a Doctor in the house…I have sick jewelry. Those words got my creative juices flowing…… Could I possibly create a concept, where jewelry repair would be done out in the open, to make the customers feel comfortable?
I started researching locations and a friend of mine told me about a shopping center in the middle of long Island that had a vacancy…… How about a hospital for broken jewelry???? Diligently pinching pennies together, I met the landlord, and with a few hundred dollars and a mere handshake, was offered a store on Middle Country Road in Coram.
Before too long, the chain shortenings, and jewelry repair, became nipping and tucking, the changing of batteries became heart transplants, and the Jewelry Hospital became a reality!! I Doctor Seymour Gold, became the first "JEWELERCOLOGIST" in America.
We feature a Hospital Motif right down to the stethascopes, scrubs, and I.V bags.Every member of my staff is educated in all types of jewelry repair.Repairs are not the only thing going on in this establishment,…there is NEW jewelry in our gift shop, some if the finest Jewelry Designs imaginable……
